The recovery was made during Operation Carback II, a week-long multi-agency crackdown that brought together Kenyan law enforcement agencies and international partners to identify stolen vehicles and dismantle criminal networks.
According to the DCI, detectives raided a motor vehicle yard along Nairobi’s Northern Bypass, where they found a grey Land Rover Discovery bearing registration number KCY 001J.
A search through the INTERPOL database established that the vehicle had been reported stolen in the UK.
It was impounded and taken to DCI headquarters for further processing and investigations.
The operation also uncovered other suspicious vehicles in different parts of the country.
In Thika West Sub-County, detectives found a white Mercedes-Benz Kompressor bearing registration number KBZ 325J, which belongs to an orange Suzuki station wagon.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s identity and registration.
In Embakasi, officers recovered a forklift bearing registration number KAD 132K, which was found to belong to a crawler.
Its chassis number had been obliterated, prompting further investigations by DCI officers.
The DCI said the operation involved inspecting more than 1,800 vehicles and checking over 260,000 against INTERPOL records.
Teams carried out inspections across Nairobi, Central, Eastern, Nyanza, Western, Coast & Rift Valley regions.
The crackdown was coordinated through INTERPOL’s Nairobi bureau and the DCI Operations Directorate, alongside agencies including NTSA, KRA, KEBS, ODPP and the two police services.
Kenya participated alongside other INTERPOL member countries in the international initiative coordinated under Project Drive Out, in collaboration with Europol.
