Her disappearance triggered an intense search that led to a gruesome discovery five days later when mutilated body parts were found in the river.
DNA tests confirmed the remains were Wamaitha’s, prompting further investigation.
According to DCI reports, Wamaitha had allegedly reported her boss to the organisation’s donors for misappropriating funds meant for educating underprivileged children.
This act reportedly led to threats against her before her tragic death.
At her family home in Makuyu, Murang’a County, relatives and friends gathered for prayers, mourning the loss of a daughter who was the sole provider for her mother.
Nancy Mungai had held onto hope until DNA results confirmed that the body belonged to Wamaitha.
Following these findings, the police arrested Wamaitha’s boss, who had previously recorded a statement before going into hiding.
Thika West Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi said the suspect has been arrested, and officers are still searching for the missing body parts.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Meanwhile, Wamaitha’s family is seeking justice, urging the authorities to ensure that those responsible are punished.
