Police in Lugari, Kakamega County, are investigating the mysterious disappearance of a high school principal who vanished on Monday morning while heading to collect KCSE examination papers.

The missing educator, identified as Simon Isiaho Shange, was the principal of Munyuki Secondary School. He was last seen at around 5:30 a.m. along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway, shortly after his car collided with a truck.

The DCI revealed that CCTV footage from a Rubis petrol station captured Mr Shange between 5:02 a.m. and 5:05 a.m., fuelling his car and paying before driving away.

He was dressed in a blue jumper over a white shirt and dark trousers.

That was the last confirmed sighting of him alive.

An eyewitness named Kibisu told police that he helped Mr Shange out of his damaged car through the passenger’s door.

He said oil had spilt on the road, forcing him to cross to the other side, but when he turned back, Mr Shange was nowhere to be seen. The truck driver also confirmed that the principal appeared unharmed after the crash and had insisted he was fine.

However, when the driver returned moments later after securing his truck, Mr Shange had disappeared.

Another witness claimed the educator left the scene on a motorcycle, though this has not been confirmed.

His Toyota car, registration KBC 778S, was later towed from Munge Stage, a section of the highway notorious for accidents.

A diary recovered from his home in Matunda revealed that his entry for the day read: “Prayer/devotion, Joshua 1:9 — Be courageous. Our students at Munyuki H commence KCSE.”

Mr Shange’s family has since filed a missing person report at Lumakanda Police Station and continues to search hospitals and mortuaries, but his whereabouts remain unknown.

His phone has been off since the morning of his disappearance.
