New details have emerged in the murder case involving Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Tabuga Parish Reverend Julius Ngari Ndumia, who was killed inside his residence in Lanet, Nakuru County, in May 2026.
Githioro area chief Godwin Kimani told the court that he viewed CCTV footage showing events surrounding the night the cleric was attacked and killed inside the church compound.
According to the testimony, four hooded men allegedly involved in the attack were dressed in what appeared to be military attire. The evidence has added a new dimension to investigations into the killing, which initially shocked congregants and residents of the area.
Rev Ndumia was attacked at his residence within the PCEA Tabuga compound during the night of May 3 and into the early hours of May 4. Police said the assailants first overpowered the church security guard before gaining access to the pastor’s residence.
The guard was also attacked and seriously injured but survived. Investigators reported that both the pastor and security guard had been restrained during the incident.
An earlier police investigation indicated that the attackers ransacked the cleric’s house and church offices before fleeing. Rev Ndumia’s body was later found inside the house with serious injuries to his head and neck.
A postmortem examination conducted on May 6 established that the reverend suffered severe head injuries and pressure to the neck, resulting in suffocation and excessive bleeding.
The investigation has since led to several developments. In July, police said forensic evidence linked four men who had been killed along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road to the murder. Detectives also reported recovering military-style uniforms from a suspected hideout in Huruma, Eldoret.
The case remains under investigation, with the latest court proceedings expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the cleric’s death and the identities of those allegedly involved.
