Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced that investigators have identified several persons of interest in the murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu. The prominent lawyer was shot dead along Magadi Road in Nairobi on Tuesday evening, sparking a nationwide outcry.
Speaking in Migori County on Thursday, Murkomen disclosed that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were interrogating some of the individuals linked to the case. He added that more suspects would be pursued as officers continue gathering evidence.
According to the CS, eyewitnesses have already recorded statements with the police, helping to piece together the events leading to the fatal shooting. Murkomen praised members of the public who have stepped forward, urging others with information to contact the nearest police station.
“We have been in close touch with the DCI since the incident, and I am glad to note that there is progress. Persons of interest have been identified, and interrogation is underway,” Murkomen confirmed during the press briefing.
The CS emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a swift investigation that delivers justice for Mbobu and his family. He assured Kenyans that authorities would leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.
While addressing the media, Murkomen also paid tribute to the slain lawyer, describing him as a brilliant, hardworking, and eloquent legal mind. He revealed that Mbobu had once been his university lecturer and mentor, making the tragedy a deeply personal loss.
“This is a painful moment for me because Mbobu was not only my teacher but also a friend,” Murkomen stated emotionally. He likened the incident to past high-profile killings that shook the country, warning against a return to impunity.
The Interior boss urged Kenyans to remain calm as the investigation continues, reiterating that justice will prevail. He further noted that the killing has renewed calls for stronger measures to protect legal professionals and other high-risk groups.
Murkomen’s remarks signaled government determination to deliver answers quickly as pressure mounts from the public and the legal fraternity. The murder of Mbobu has already drawn widespread condemnation, with many demanding urgent reforms to address insecurity.
