A senior official of Nairobi Hospital was rushed for medical attention on Monday after falling ill while waiting to appear in court in Nairobi.
Dr. Job Obwaka, an 80-year-old medical practitioner and member of the hospital’s board, developed health complications at the premises of the Milimani Law Courts.
The doctor had been brought to court in the morning by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. He and several other officials were waiting inside a DCI vehicle ahead of their planned arraignment.
Witnesses said the elderly medic appeared weak and unwell while still in the vehicle. Paramedics who were present at the court quickly moved in to assist him after his condition worsened.
Medical teams provided first aid before he was placed in an ambulance and rushed to hospital for further treatment.
The situation caused concern among lawyers, family members and colleagues who had gathered at the court compound for the proceedings. Many feared that the long hours in custody could have affected the doctor’s health.
Dr. Obwaka’s health scare happened only two days after his arrest in Nairobi. Detectives from the DCI picked him up on Saturday morning outside his private clinic located at the NSSF Building in the city.
Reports indicate that the officers arrested him at around 9 a.m. when he arrived at the facility to attend to patients. He was then taken into custody and later detained at the Muthaiga Police Station.
