The IEBC has expressed concern regarding the number of new voters coming forward to register to participate in the 2027 general election.
IEBC Commissioner, Ann Nderitu, has disclosed that out of the targeted 6.8 million new voters, the commission has only managed 90,200 registrations so far.
She has stated that this is despite the fact that young people attaining the age of 18 continue to take their national IDs.
“In terms of voter registration, we’re not doing well as a country, falling short of our target of 6.8 million. Many Kenyans are not coming out to register,” she said on Spice FM on Thursday.
She called upon Kenyans to take advantage of the ongoing drive and participate in determining the future of the country by electing the right leaders.
“As a Kenyan, if you understand the importance of voting and shaping your country’s future, taking a few minutes to go to a polling station and register is a small but powerful step in building our democracy.”
