Independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) vice chairperson Juliana Cherera has revealed that she will not honour the summons from the national assembly’s justice and legal affairs committee (JLAC).
Speaking through her lawyer, Cherera stated that she won’t attend the sessions as the Justice and legal affairs committee did not give her sufficient time to prepare and mount a successful defence of the charges levelled against her.
On the other hand, another commissioner who disputed the 9th August presidential results Irene Masit refused to defend herself. The committee was told by her lawyer that Masit will neither appear in person not have a lawyer to defend her in the case.
“Independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) commissioners skip hearing of removal petitions. Juliana Cherera has sought an adjournment of proceedings. Irene Masit’s lawyer said she won’t defend herself,” Citizen TV reported.
MPs are hearing four petitions filed against the four dissenting IEBC commissioners with the petitioners calling for their removal from office.
