Senator Cherargei has said that some self-proclaimed activists in Kenya, have not learned their lessons when it comes to respecting the sovereignty of other nations.
He questioned why certain individuals feel entitled to interfere with the internal politics and domestic affairs of friendly countries, noting that those same nations have never meddled in Kenya’s local matters.
According to the senator, such behavior not only reflects arrogance but also risks damaging Kenya’s diplomatic relations with its allies.
Cherargei emphasized that Kenya values mutual respect and non-interference as the foundation of its foreign policy.
He argued that activists who engage in commenting or attempting to influence political outcomes in neighboring countries are acting irresponsibly and tarnishing Kenya’s image abroad.
“This affirms my position that we shouldn’t allow any of these activists to export bad manners to other countries,” he stated firmly.
The senator further warned that such conduct could have serious consequences for ordinary Kenyans living and working peacefully across the region.
He cautioned that unnecessary interference might provoke host governments to place Kenyan expatriates under scrutiny or suspicion, creating avoidable tension and hardship.
Cherargei concluded by urging the authorities to monitor and hold accountable those who misuse activism as a cover for political meddling.
He reiterated that Kenya’s focus should remain on strengthening friendly relations, promoting regional cooperation, and ensuring that citizens abroad continue to enjoy respect, and safety without being dragged into political controversies instigated by a few misguided individuals.
