The cast of the famous Nairobi Half life TV series have come together for the first time in a decade in honour of one of their own, the late Maina Olwenya.
Maina who played as ‘Oti’ in the film, died on Monday due to a heart condition known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a disease in which the heart muscle becomes thickened (hypertrophied).
Most people with the condition have no symptoms and experience no significant problems.
For some, it can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, or abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).
The cast which includes; Jacky Vike, Joseph Babu, Ogola, Anthony Tosh, Mugambi,Theodore, Ojiambo Ainea and Shix Kapienga came together for a short but moving tribute in honor of Olwenya.
The cast called on the members of public to continue contributing towards Maina’s funeral arrangement to ensure that he gets befitting send off.
“Hello everyone this is the cast of the film Nairobi Half life and we are coming together to make a special appeal. As you know we lost our dear friend one of the finest in the industry, Maina Olwenya aka Oti. We are making this request to everyone out there to contribute whatever you canso that we can have a fitting send off to a legend in the industry,” the cast said in a statement.
Sharing the video on her Instagram page, Jacky Vike who was a close friend to Maina wrote,
“We, the cast of Nairobi Half Life, a film that Kenyans and the world have supported constantly for a decade now, come to you our fans with heavy hearts to inform you of the demise of one of us, our superstar Maina Wilfred Olwenya known as ‘Oti’ in the film, passed away on Monday this week due to a heart condition known as Hypertonic Cardiomyopathy.
Our appeal to you is to help us as friends and family to give Olwenya a great send of, one that he deserves.“
