Content creator Cassypool has urged President William Ruto to consider Ida Odinga, the widow of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as his running mate in the 2027 General Election.
Cassypool argued that Kenyans have not done enough to celebrate Raila’s legacy and recognise his contribution to the country’s political history.
The proposal has sparked discussion about Ida’s possible role in national politics following the death of her husband, who remained one of Kenya’s most influential political figures for decades.
Raila served as Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013 under the grand coalition government formed after the disputed 2007 General Election. He later continued to play a significant role in opposition politics, participating in several presidential elections and building political alliances across the country.
His death marked a major turning point in Kenya’s political landscape, particularly within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the party he led for years.
Cassypool’s suggestion comes as political leaders and their supporters begin looking towards the 2027 General Election, with discussions about possible alliances and running mates expected to intensify.
Ida, who has largely maintained a lower public profile than her late husband, has not been confirmed as a potential running mate for Ruto. There is also no public confirmation that the President is considering her for the position.
The proposal therefore remains Cassypool’s personal suggestion rather than an announced political arrangement.
If such an alliance were ever considered, it would likely attract considerable public attention because of Raila’s longstanding political relationship with Ruto, as well as the changing dynamics within the opposition.
For now, it remains to be seen whether Ida will take a more active role in politics or whether Ruto will consider the proposal as the country prepares for the next election.
