The widow of late Mugithi music legend John DeMathew has finally broken her silence, and she’s not holding back! In a fiery message to her critics, Carolyne DeMathew has told off those still obsessed with her late husband’s polygamous lifestyle, demanding that they “let him rest in peace.”
Carolyne, who was John DeMathew’s second wife, spoke out against the relentless public scrutiny she’s faced since the singer’s tragic death in a 2019 road accident. Despite their promise to honor the late icon in peace, Carolyne and her co-wife Sarafina have had a turbulent relationship — one that eventually spilled into courtrooms and social media.
“Even if he married Lady Gaga or whoever, please let him rest,” Carolyne stated, clearly fed up with the constant judgment from the public.
But behind her calm appeal is a stormy history. After John’s death, Carolyne claims she was kicked out of her matrimonial home and denied access to her husband’s royalties by Sarafina. The tension escalated into a bitter legal battle over inheritance, made worse by the fact that John DeMathew left no will.
“I fought for my rights, but in the end, Sarafina won,” Carolyne revealed, signaling that the dust has finally settled — even if the scars remain.
Her emotional statement sparked a wildfire of reactions on social media. Some fans sympathized with her, while others pointed fingers, suggesting she brought the drama upon herself.
“Even the dead don’t rest these days,” one user lamented. Another added, “Why are people still counting his wives now? Let him rest!”
John DeMathew, known for hits like Njata Yakwa, lived a life that captivated fans across Kenya. But even in death, his legacy continues to stir emotions, controversy, and now — a widow’s powerful plea for peace.
