Five people are feared dead after a car they were traveling in was swept away by floods as River Muatineni along Sultan Hamud-Kasikeu road in Migori County burst its banks following heavy rains. The incident took place on Friday night.
Reports indicate that the car was overpowered by the floods as the driver attempted to navigate through the bridge whose water level was high
Efforts to remove the car from the river are underway. However, it is difficult for police divers and the public to remove the ill-fated vehicle because of poor visibility occasioned by heavy rains and high water levels.
Area police boss urged all the motorists to be on the lookout when approaching this river
The police boss also called on public service vehicles to strike a balance between rushing to make a kill during this festive season and safety of their passengers in the wake of the ongoing rains. He cautioned motorists against wading through flooded rivers.
