DIG Eliud

During the emotional burial ceremony of the late teacher Ojwang, a strong and defiant call for justice reverberated through the air as one of his grieving colleagues demanded the arrest and prosecution of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat.

The unnamed speaker, a fellow teacher and close associate of the deceased, did not hold back his words, accusing Lagat of bearing responsibility for the circumstances that led to Ojwang’s untimely death.

“We want DIG Eliud Lagat arrested and jailed,” the teacher declared, his voice shaking with emotion. The crowd, composed of family, friends, fellow educators, and members of the public, listened in silence as the statement struck a chord with many who believe that justice has been long overdue.

While details surrounding Ojwang’s death remain unclear, his colleague alleged that it was linked to state-sponsored brutality or negligence under the watch of senior police officials. The accusations were not supported by specific evidence during the speech, but the sentiment reflected growing public frustration with how certain cases involving security forces are handled.

The mourners responded with nods and murmurs of agreement, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of accountability in law enforcement.

The burial, held in Ojwang’s rural home, was marked not only by tears of sorrow but also by passionate calls for justice and reform. Many speakers used the opportunity to urge the government to investigate the circumstances of the teacher’s death and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The recurring mention of DIG Eliud Lagat by name brought national attention to the issue, especially in the wake of increased scrutiny of police conduct during recent public protests.

Activists present at the ceremony vowed to take the matter further, including petitioning Parliament and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the claims. “We cannot bury our own and pretend everything is fine,” one activist said. “We demand answers, and we will not stop until we get them.”
