Residents of Kaimbaga Ward in Ol Kalou constituency blocked school buses and ordered passengers out on Friday. Rumours had spread that the vehicles were carrying people linked to suspicious identity card dealings weeks before the July 16 by-election.

Videos circulating on social media showed a charged crowd surrounding the buses and refusing to let them move. Passengers were forced to alight before being chased away from the area.

Online speculation alleged the buses were heading to Acacia in Gilgil, transporting individuals connected to irregular national identity card transactions. The claims remained unverified at the time of publication, and security agencies had not released any statement on the matter.

The confrontation landed in an already tense political environment. Senior UDA figures including Embu governor Cecily Mbarire, Nakuru governor Susan Kihika, and Nyandarua woman representative Faith Gitau had recently held rallies in the constituency for party candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga.

At those events, UDA leaders dismissed earlier warnings by Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia that outsiders were being organised to influence the result. They accused her of undermining public confidence in IEBC.

With the by-election less than four weeks away, the bus incident has added another layer of suspicion to a race that has already attracted national attention.
