Cases of traffic accidents have been increasing across many regions of the Republic of Kenya.
In the latest incident, a serious accident occurred at Waani River along the Ngoluni-Tawa road in Makueni County.Reports indicate that a PSV bus transporting 46 students overturned and fell into River Waani along the Ngoluni-Tawa road in Makueni County.
Initial reports from Musyi FM on their Facebook page revealed that the students were travelling to a school games competition when the accident took place.
Reports indicate that no fatalities were recorded, although several students suffered minor injuries while trying to escape from the wreckage.
Witnesses said the bus lost control during the turn, swerving off the road before plunging into the river.
Swift action from bystanders and passing drivers helped rescue students trapped inside the vehicle.Emergency teams, including ambulances from the Makueni County rescue unit, arrived quickly and transported the injured to Makueni County Referral Hospital for care.
Local residents noted that this stretch of road is a known accident-prone area, often called a blackspot, and appealed for urgent safety measures to prevent future mishaps.
Authorities have launched enquiries into the incident, including reviewing the driver’s actions and the road conditions.
Police have urged drivers to be cautious on busy roads, especially during the rainy season when conditions are slippery and dangerous.
