Shock and sadness have hit residents after the body of a young Gen Z activist who had been reported missing was discovered in Michene Forest. The gruesome discovery was made by locals on Tuesday morning, sending panic across the area and drawing a large crowd to the scene.
According to witnesses, the body was found wrapped tightly in polythene paper and dumped deep inside the forest. Villagers who had gone to collect firewood first spotted the suspicious bundle before alerting the authorities. When police officers arrived, they confirmed that it was the body of the activist who had been missing for several days.
The activist, well known among the youth for openly speaking against corruption and injustice, had last been seen on Friday evening. Family members said they lost contact with him after he left home, raising fears when his phone went off and all attempts to trace him failed. Relatives later filed a missing person report at the nearest police station.
Police at the scene described the incident as brutal and said investigations had already begun. Officers collected the body and transferred it to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death. “We are treating this as a suspected murder case. Our team is working around the clock to ensure those behind this heinous act are brought to justice,” a senior officer told reporters.
The news has caused an uproar on social media, with many young people demanding justice and condemning the increasing cases of attacks on activists. Friends of the deceased described him as a brave and outspoken individual who fought for fairness and equal rights, saying his death was a big loss to the community.
Leaders and human rights groups have also called for a speedy investigation. They urged the government to provide more protection for activists, especially the youth, who continue to face threats for speaking out.
As police continue with investigations, the family is left in pain, struggling to come to terms with the loss of their loved one. Plans for his burial are expected to begin once the post-mortem results are released.
This incident has once again raised fears over the safety of young voices challenging the system in the country.
