As Uganda and the Muslim world mark Eid al-Fitr the joyous end of Ramadan opposition leader Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi publicly joined the celebrations in a powerful display of interfaith solidarity and compassion.

In a warm video message posted on his official X account (@HEBobiwine) this afternoon, the couple greeted Muslims worldwide. Bobi Wine, dressed in a maroon shirt and patterned headscarf, delivered heartfelt greetings in both English and Luganda:

“A very happy Eid al-Fitr to all of you my Muslim brothers and sisters. May the almighty Allah accept your sacrifice and reward you. Assalam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.”

Towards the end of the clip, Barbie Kyagulanyi appears beside him wearing a beautiful white hijab and traditional attire, smiling brightly as they pose together. Bobi playfully refers to her as “the first lady of our country,” drawing cheers from supporters.

The video has already gone viral, with thousands of Ugandans Muslims and non-Muslims alike sharing it with messages of “Eid Mubarak from Bobi Wine and Barbie ❤️”.

Later in the day, the couple took their celebration further by opening their home to the children and relatives of political prisoners and victims of enforced disappearances. In an emotional Facebook post, Bobi Wine wrote:

“Today, as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families and friends, my wife Barbie Kyagulanyi and I opened our home and spent time with the young ones whose lives continue to be shadowed by the absence of their loved ones. We shared the Eid meal with the children… to remind especially these children that for as long as their parents remain away… they shall always find another family in us.”
