Jubilee Party aspirant Jacob Ireri Mbao has suffered a major blow after the party withdrew its support for his Mbeere North parliamentary bid ahead of the November 27, 2025 by-election. The decision has dramatically altered the race’s political landscape.
In a letter received by Mbao three days ago, Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni informed him that the party would not issue a nomination certificate. Instead, the party resolved to support the Democratic Party (DP) candidate, Newton Karish, as part of the United Opposition’s strategy to field a single candidate.
Kioni explained that the decision followed a resolution by opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua, to avoid splitting votes in the crucial contest.
While the letter expressed regret for any inconvenience, it reaffirmed Jubilee’s commitment to the joint opposition cause. Mbao, a loyal party member, accepted the decision gracefully, saying he would announce his next political step soon.
Despite the setback, Mbao remains a strong figure in Embu politics, known for his grassroots appeal and community initiatives. His exit from the race, however, leaves the party’s influence in the region uncertain.
Adding intrigue to the unfolding events, sources revealed that Mbao recently held a private meeting with Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku.
The meeting sparked speculation that Mbao may endorse UDA candidate Leonard Muthende, a move that could tilt the balance of power in the race.
Analysts believe such a shift could reshape alliances and weaken opposition unity.
With Chama Cha Kazi’s Duncan Mbui also in the race, the Mbeere North by-election is shaping up to be an unpredictable political showdown.
