Bien BarazaShuts Down Otile Brown’s International Reputation in Past Interview
Kenyan artist Bien Baraza stirred headlines some time back after a past interview went viral on the web during which he questioned the international status of singer Otile Brown. As per the interview, Bien claimed Otile is a good artist but not a star one could classify as international.
Bien, one of the Sauti Sol band members, added to this by stating that just because one becomes famous in East Africa does not mean they become global. In his opinion, artists that are global have to be more present and have a broader population in other markets outside the continent.
The majority of the fans on social media were strongly reactional to Bien’s statement. Some came in defense of him, saying he was being honest. Others felt he was being unfair and disrespectful to Otile Brown, who has had a number of hit songs and a huge following.
Otile Brown has not publicly commented on the comments, but a number of his fans have requested Bien to give credit where credit is due. The matter still continues to be discussed online as the two artists remain popular in the Kenyan music.
