The family of late gospel singer Betty Bayo has received closure following investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death, with her brother Edward Kang’ethe Mbugua confirming that the cause of her death was medically established.

Mbugua, popularly known as Ng’esh, shared an emotional message on Facebook on Wednesday, October 1, 2026, following the conclusion of the inquest into his sister’s death.

In the post, he said the investigations had brought an end to a difficult period for the family and confirmed that the cause of death had been medically established as AMN.

“November 10, 2025, is the day you died, my blood sister, but today, October 1st is the day you have rested in peace (RIP), siz. The inquest has come to a closure,” Mbugua wrote.

He added that the medical findings had given him peace and appealed to Betty’s fans to allow the singer to rest.

“Cause of death has been proven medically. Am now at peace to all her fans; let’s allow her soul to rest. Asanteni,” he said.

Betty, whose real name was Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, died on November 10, 2025, while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. Her death initially led to widespread grief among her family, friends and followers in Kenya’s gospel music community.

However, questions surrounding the circumstances of her death emerged after members of her family said they were dissatisfied with the information available to them.

Through their lawyers, the family petitioned the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Inspector General of Police in December 2025. They raised concerns that Betty had no known history of a chronic or underlying illness and questioned the circumstances surrounding her sudden death.

The family also said they had not been given access to her medical records and treatment information and claimed that an autopsy or postmortem report had not been shared with them. They further questioned what they described as a hurried burial, which took place on November 20, 2025.

Following the family’s petition, the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to conduct fresh investigations into the circumstances surrounding Betty’s death.

The investigation continued as the family sought answers about what had happened to the singer before her death.

Almost a year after Betty died, her brother’s latest statement now indicates that the inquest has formally been concluded and that the medical cause of death has been established.

Mbugua’s message suggests that the family is ready to move forward after months of uncertainty, while remembering Betty for the music and faith that made her a well known figure in Kenya’s gospel scene. Betty was 40 years old when she died.
