The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released a new weather forecast showing that Nairobi and four other parts of the country will continue to experience cold weather and rain this week.

In a report released on Wednesday, July 17, 2025, Kenya Met said that Nairobi, parts of the Central Highlands, parts of the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and parts of the South Eastern lowlands will remain cold and wet.

According to the weather experts, the cold season is still ongoing and people should dress warmly and take care of their health, especially in the early morning and at night.

Kenya Met explained that Nairobi residents should expect cloudy skies in the morning, with light rains and drizzle in some places.

Later in the day, there may be some sunshine but the temperatures will remain low.

“Cloudy mornings with light rains are expected over few places. Afternoon showers may occur over some areas,” the report said about Nairobi County.

In the Central Highlands, which include Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, and Meru counties, the mornings will also be cloudy with some light rain.

Temperatures in these areas will remain between 9°C and 23°C, so residents are advised to wear warm clothes and stay safe from flu and chest illnesses.

In Western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley like Kericho, Bomet, and Nakuru, the weather will be cool and rainy, especially in the evenings.

Kenya Met said that people in these areas should also expect fog in the morning, which could make driving difficult. Drivers are advised to be extra careful.

The South Eastern lowlands, which include parts of Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui, may also get some rain and will be generally cloudy and cold.

On the other hand, counties near the Coast such as Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi will be warmer. However, there might be some rain in the morning and evening.

Kenya Met warned that the cold season could affect people’s health, especially children and the elderly.

They advised parents to ensure children wear warm clothes, drink hot fluids, and avoid staying outside too long.

In general, Kenyans are advised to keep checking the daily weather updates and plan their days accordingly.

The cold season is expected to continue until early August.
