Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino recently met with Grammy Award-winning Kenyan rapper Mark Makora Mbogo, popularly known as KayCyy, during the artist’s visit to Kenya. The meeting, which took place on November 21, 2025, was marked by enthusiasm and mutual respect, highlighting the significance of KayCyy’s return to his home country after 17 years abroad.
Sharing a video of the encounter on social media, Babu Owino expressed optimism about the positive impact that influential figures like KayCyy could have on the city’s development. He commended the rapper’s achievements in the international music scene and called for collaboration in nurturing the country’s growth. Babu Owino also revealed his political plans, announcing his intention to run for governor in 2027, with aspirations for the presidency thereafter, seeking support from the young artist.
KayCyy arrived in Kenya on November 18, 2025, where he was warmly welcomed with a celebration featuring traditional Maasai dancers. Speaking to the press, he described the experience as a heartfelt homecoming, filled with excitement and nostalgia. “I feel like I’m back home, feet on the ground. I’m dancing with my people, Kenya to the world,” he said.
The rapper also announced that he is working on a new album featuring collaborations with several Kenyan artists, including members of Sauti Sol. He expressed confidence that Kenyan music is poised to reach new heights. KayCyy is scheduled to perform at various shows during the festive season, further solidifying his connection to the local music scene.
Born in Keroka, Kisii County, KayCyy moved to the United States at an early age. His unique blend of hip-hop, R&B, and global rhythms has earned him collaborations with internationally renowned artists such as Kanye West and Travis Scott. His return signals a promising era for both his career and the Kenyan music industry.
