Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has revealed the extent of his financial commitment to DJ Evolve, Felix Orinda , saying he has spent nearly KSh 70 million on his treatment following the 2020 shooting incident.

Speaking during a recent interview, the legislator explained that he has been consistently covering medical expenses for the DJ over the past six years. The incident, which occurred at a Nairobi nightclub, left Evolve with serious injuries that required long-term care and rehabilitation.

According to Owino, the financial burden has been significant, forcing him to take loans to sustain the ongoing treatment. He disclosed that he spends approximately KSh 500,000 monthly to cater for hospital bills, therapy, and other related needs.

The lawmaker said the support is part of a restorative justice agreement reached after the case, where he took responsibility for the victim’s welfare. As a result of the arrangement, the attempted murder charge was withdrawn, and subsequent legal hurdles were resolved over time.

Despite the challenges, Owino noted that Evolve has made notable progress in his recovery. He shared that the DJ can now talk and eat independently, although he still requires physiotherapy to regain full mobility.

Reflecting on the incident, Owino described it as a turning point in his life, saying it led him to abandon alcohol and change his lifestyle. He maintained that the shooting was accidental, stating that the firearm discharged during an interaction at the club.

The case remains one of the most talked about incidents in Kenya, continuing to spark debate on accountability, justice, and second chances, even as Evolve’s recovery journey continues.
