Kenyan presidential contender Raila Odinga is to take legal steps to challenge William Ruto’s narrow election victory, adding to uncertainty in the aftermath of a poll to decide the successor to Uhuru Kenyatta.
There is disagreement among lawyers over the implications of the decision made on Tuesday by four electoral agency members to distance themselves from the results of the presidential election.
According to some lawyers, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati’s declaration of Dr. Ruto as the nation’s next president was invalid because four of the commission’s seven commissioners disagree.
John Mbadi asserted that Raila has not yet submitted the petition following the election results, but promises to do so as soon as the lawyers are prepared.
Mbadi claims that their lawyers are still gathering concrete evidence in order for them to overcome their rival, Kenya Kwanza team in court and have the Supreme Court rule in their favor for running for re-election.
