Apoo, a TikTok creator from Kakuma, has shared the painful journey that pushed her into marrying a stranger she met on the street. She said her first husband abandoned her after she gave birth to seven children, and to date, she doesn’t know if he is alive or dead.
Speaking during a TikTok live with Shangazi, who had earlier helped her and her friend Fardosa come to Nairobi, Apoo said she saw a man on the street and asked him to stay with her. “I took that man because of these kids. I told him to stay with me so we can raise the kids. We both loved tobacco,” she said.
The relationship did not last long after she discovered he had other wives. At one point, she said, he even attempted to beat her. Apoo revealed that she built a small house where they lived, and later gave birth to twins, although sadly one of them died. When the man’s other wives started looking for her, she feared for her safety and reported the matter to the police.
“I told him not to beat me, because I had punctures from my first husband. My first husband broke my teeth because of the kids’ food. He gave me three blows and removed three teeth. The neighbours told me to go to the police, and I did. He was arrested but later escaped. I do not even know where he is,” she said.
Apoo revealed she has lost seven children, but four are still alive.
