Amount Of Money Government Intends To Pay Village Elders Monthly If The Program Will be Implemented

The government has invited the public to submit their views on the plan of integrating 45,000 village elders into civil service. As public will be engaged soon over this matter, the government intends to pay each village elder monthly stipend of between Ksh. 7,000 to Ksh. 12,445. As highlighted by Lemiso media house on their official Facebook page.

This means, the government will set aside between Ksh. 3.9 billion to Ksh. 7.9 billion annually to pay their salaries. This figure excludes recruitment expenses in the first year. The government under ministry of interior came up with this idea of giving village elders monthly stipend for the job they do in the villages of making sure issues that arrises between members of communities are solved amicably.

Upon seeing this information as highlighted by Lemiso media house, Kenyans online have flooded on his Facebook timeline, each giving his/her own opinion basing on this plan. Majority are suggesting that, the said village elders should not be subjected into any kind of recruitment. Their opinion is that, let them be captured by PSC and the government to start paying them.

A netizen identified as Bashir Murei has commented saying, ” No need to waste our time, it is already factored in with the proposed Financial Bill. We are going to pay them. ” He wrote. Another section of netizens have suggested that, the government should also consider young men who have completed form four to take over this job.
