Tim Booker, an American entrepreneur, made the bold decision to relocate from Washington, DC to Nairobi in search of a deeper sense of purpose beyond financial success.
Speaking to Webnation Africa, the middle-aged African-American investor revealed that although he owns properties in scenic locations near beaches and mountains across different countries, he still felt something was missing in his life.
Despite teaching generational wealth in areas such as physical health, finances, spiritual growth, healthy living, and family unity, Booker said he longed for more meaningful impact.
He credited his cousin, who serves on the board of several nonprofits including the Safari Life Foundation, for encouraging him to visit Kenya.
During a trip that was initially meant to last two weeks, Booker extended his stay to five weeks after a life-changing experience in Machakos County. That visit, he said, made it clear that Kenya was where he needed to be.
“I had accomplished a lot, but there was still something missing. I found it here,” he shared.
Booker restructured his life to allow him to spend extended periods in Nairobi, where he now resides in a luxurious five-bedroom English stone house in Lavington.
The residence blends urban sophistication with wellness-focused amenities, reflecting his holistic approach to living.
Financially secure through investments in stocks, commodities, cryptocurrency, coffee, and tea, Booker enjoys passive income that enables him to focus on philanthropy and community engagement.
He described Nairobi as “the jewel of Africa” from a business standpoint, praising its entrepreneurial energy and intellectual capital.
According to him, the city’s vibrant yet less pressured environment allows him to think more clearly and strategize effectively without the constant rush he experienced in the US.
He also noted that transitioning to life in Kenya was smooth due to cultural similarities, familiar cuisine, and the widespread use of English.
Within weeks, he had built strong connections with like-minded individuals, emphasizing that he never felt isolated.
For Booker, moving to Nairobi was not about money, but about aligning his life with purpose, impact, and meaningful community engagement.
