Omosh Staunch

In a moment that caught many by surprise, President William Ruto came face-to-face with one of Raila Odinga’s most vocal grassroots supporters, Omosh One Hour, during a public rally in Embakasi, Nairobi.

The unexpected encounter happened during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Savannah–Stage 17–Masimba Road, a key infrastructure project traversing Embakasi East and Embakasi Central constituencies.

The event attracted thousands of residents, among them the fiery Bunge la Mwananchi activist known for his unwavering support for the opposition.

President Ruto, who was on a day-long tour of Nairobi’s Eastlands area, acknowledged the presence of Omosh One Hour as part of his wider appeal to all Kenyans, regardless of political leaning to rally behind development initiatives.

“We have rolled out a comprehensive plan that will change the face of Nairobi to make it a top global hub. In the first phase, we are constructing at least 70 kilometres of roads within the city to facilitate trade, ease traffic and spur growth,” Ruto said during his address.

The symbolic meeting was seen by many observers as a thawing of political tensions, especially as Omosh One Hour known for his fiery speeches in support of Azimio was spotted clapping and cheering during the presidential remarks.

Earlier in the day, the President visited Lucky Summer for the launch of Nairobi River reclamation and urban renewal projects, promising to restore the city’s lost glory through coordinated environmental and infrastructural efforts.

“We are not just fixing roads. We are reclaiming rivers, modernising drainage, and transforming neglected neighbourhoods,” Ruto added.

The encounter between Ruto and Omosh has sparked mixed reactions online. While some hailed it as a sign of political maturity and unity, others questioned whether the popular activist was softening his stance or merely supporting development regardless of the source.

For now, the image of President Ruto standing alongside a staunch opposition figure in a historically pro-Raila stronghold has left Nairobians buzzing — a snapshot that could carry significant political weight as the 2027 race draws closer.
