In an emotional post, Akothee revealed heartbreaking reality of her father’s struggle with dementia. “Yo, my Dad still doesn’t know why we are here,” she wrote. “He kept asking again and again why Raila isn’t coming to greet him.”
She recounted how her father was gently told that Raila had passed away, yet his mind couldn’t process the news.Instead, he smiled, signed the condolence book, and wrote a simple but touching message that read, “I am happy to see my daughter.”
Akothee expressed how deeply this moment affected her, realizing that her father was only aware of being reunited with her after months apart.
“Dementia is real,” she wrote, her words heavy with emotion. “He still doesn’t understand why we are here.”
The former Head of State described Raila as a lifelong friend and compatriot whose contribution to Kenya’s democracy will remain indelible.
Raila Odinga, who died on October 15 in India while undergoing treatment, was laid to rest on October 19 at his ancestral home in Bondo after a state funeral attended by national and foreign dignitaries.
