Known for hits like Sukari, Zuchu will headline the event at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, alongside Kenyan musician Savara and Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo.
Tanzanian Bongo Flava star Zuchu will take the stage at the closing ceremony of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) final in Kenya, despite previously declaring she would never collaborate with Kenyan artists.
Known for hits like Sukari, Zuchu will headline the event at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, alongside Kenyan musician Savara and Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo.
She expressed her excitement on social media about joining the star-studded line-up as the month-long tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, comes to an end this weekend.
“I’m so thrilled to announce that I will be headlining the African Champions League final this year. #CHAN2025 happening in Nairobi at Kasarani Stadium on August 30, 2025,” Zuchu wrote in her announcement.
The announcement comes barely two months after Zuchu swore off working with Kenyan artists, claiming Kenyans had disrespected Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu. Jobs in education
She further accused Kenyans of embarrassing President Suluhu during a period of heightened tensions between the two nations.
“I cannot collaborate with Kenyan artists because they have no respect at all; they have insulted our President and mocked her very badly. They must apologise so we can go our separate ways, but right now I absolutely refuse!” she stated.
Her remarks followed accusations by Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi and Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire, who claimed President Suluhu was behind their three-day detention by Tanzanian authorities.
The pair had travelled to witness the trial of Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu but were reportedly abducted during their stay.
Zuchu’s stance sparked outrage among Kenyans—many of whom make up a significant part of her fanbase—with some urging a boycott of her music and even pushing for her to be banned from the country. Jobs in education
CHAN Final Showdown
The CHAN final promises high drama, with Morocco chasing a historic third title while debut finalists Madagascar look to complete a fairytale journey by lifting their first-ever continental crown.
Morocco advanced to the final after edging Senegal 5-3 on penalties in the semi-finals, having earlier knocked out co-hosts Tanzania 1-0 in the quarter-finals. The North Africans had secured their place in the knockout stage by finishing second in Group A, just behind Kenya, whom they lost to.
Madagascar’s road to the final was equally dramatic. After finishing runners-up to Tanzania in Group B, they eliminated Kenya 4-3 on penalties in a tense quarter-final. The Barea then stunned Sudan with a late extra-time winner at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam to seal their place in Sunday’s decider.
This match has attracted huge interest from Kenyan fans, many of whom have already secured tickets to the final and will be hoping for a Morocco win as Madagascar silenced Kasarani Stadium on Friday, August 22, thus viewing this as an opportunity for ‘karma’ to strike the island nation.
