Celebrated comedian and media personality Oga Obinna has confirmed receiving Ksh. 300,000 from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The funds, he says, will be used to buy tickets for fans who want to attend his comedy special but cannot afford it.
Speaking exclusively to Opera News, Obinna said the money will be used to secure 300 tickets for his June 7, 2025, show. “This is a full circle moment. A promise was made, and now it has been kept,” Obinna told Opera News.

According to Obinna, the 300 tickets will be split equally—150 for men and 150 for women. “We want everyone to feel included,” he said. “I’ll post the criteria on my socials so people know how to qualify.”
The announcement was made via a video on his official Facebook page, where he thanked Gachagua publicly. “Thank you, Riggy G, for supporting talent and the Obinna family,” he said. “Be on standby. I’ll tell you how to get the tickets from tomorrow.”
Obinna’s post drew mixed reactions from fans, with many praising him for his generosity while others pleaded to be considered. “This is big. I’ve wanted to attend but couldn’t afford the ticket,” one fan commented.

Opera News contacted Gachagua’s communications office, which confirmed the funds were sent as part of a personal pledge. “The former Deputy President appreciates talent and supports initiatives that uplift youth through entertainment,” a representative said.
However, the gesture has stirred some online controversy. It was during Obinna’s show that Gachagua made a remark about the 2007/2008 post-election violence—comments that drew criticism from several public figures.
Obinna, when asked by Opera News, distanced himself from political interpretations. “My focus is comedy and giving back. What guests say is on them,” he stated.
As excitement builds for the show, fans await further instructions on how to apply for the free tickets. Obinna remains grateful. “This is for the fans. Let’s laugh together on June 7,” he concluded.
