A hardcore criminal gang with roots in Nairobi’s Kayole mansion has relocated and is now terrorizing residents of Tana River County.

The Kayole Brothers, a Madgo City gang, are believed to be made up of leftover criminals who fled Nairobi’s Kayole district during a 2018 raid by security forces.

Now they are a nuisance to the city, terrorizing residents with armed robberies.

“You’re dangerous. They don’t hesitate to kill or hurt anyone who resists or opposes a robbery,” said Madgo resident Halima Sharif. According to local authorities, the group consists mainly of school dropouts under the age of 17. They are also known for not hesitating to kill their victims if they encounter resistance.

Recently, the gang began recruiting female members accustomed to luring victims into traps and committing robberies. Girls are also reportedly used to frame unsuspecting victims of various crimes, including rape in extortion rings.

“You never know who is a gang member and who is not. Your children can become members and can be used to spy on you….so we usually don’t interfere in their affairs.

Despite the arrest of its leader in 2021, the group has resurfaced with a new leader, now demanding that the district offer business his venture in exchange for them laying down their weapons. .

The gang recently held a conference with district council members and youth leaders in the Tanah North subdistrict to submit a request that included granting a car wash contract.

“We are criminals for a living. We have no jobs and the district has all kinds of jobs for our entourage, so crime is our only way of survival,” said the gang. Member Abu Malik said.
