It’s disheartening to hear about situations where young girls have to resort to working as house helps to pay for their education. However, it’s also inspiring to see the determination and resilience of these young girls who are willing to work hard to achieve their dreams.

Judy Nduta, who did her KCPE exam in 2021, has been doing house help jobs so that she could raise her fees for secondary school education. In her KCPE, Judy managed to score 324 marks.

“Nilikua natarajia nitaendelea na masomo yangu ya secondary lakini sikuweza kuendelea nayo kwa sababu mama hakua na school fees, lakini leo nikona furaha sana nimeweza kupata usaidizi…” Judy said.

The mother who spoke to K24 News said she had lost hope in schooling her daughter because the family couldn’t afford the high school fees.

“Nilikua nimepoteza matumaini sikua na kitu, kazi ya kutafuta pesa ya fees ilkua shida,” Judy’s mother said.

The county government, through Kiambu Women Representative Ann Wamuratha, have come to the rescue, and Judy has now been enrolled to join the school. The family expressed their joy and thanked the county government officials.

In this case, it’s important to support and encourage the girl in any way possible. Perhaps there are local organizations or charities that can provide financial assistance for her education. It’s also important to ensure that she is working in healthy environment and that her employer is treating her fairly. Ultimately, education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all. It’s important to work towards creating a society where young girls can achieve their full potential without having to face such challenges.
