Homabay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has lashed out at The Standard newspaper following what he described as a reckless and disrespectful headline published shortly after Madaraka Day.
Taking to his official X account (formerly Twitter), Kaluma did not hold back his frustration, writing:
“What a stupid headline Standard Kenya! What will your headline be after the 2027 presidential elections?”
Although the MP didn’t reference the specific headline, his post suggests dissatisfaction with how The Standard covered the aftermath of Madaraka Day celebrations.
The public holiday, which this year marked 62 years since Kenya attained internal self-governance in 1963, is traditionally a moment of national pride and political reflection.
Kaluma’s strong reaction has sparked mixed reactions online. Some users supported his call for media accountability, while others questioned whether his statement was an attempt to shield the current administration from criticism.
The legislator is known for speaking his mind on national matters and has never shied away from calling out institutions he believes are misleading the public.
His criticism hints at growing political tensions and media scrutiny as the country slowly inches toward the 2027 general elections.
At the time of writing, The Standard had not issued any public response to Kaluma’s remarks.
