The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed fresh details linking Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu to what is now being termed a staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.
In a statement issued Thursday evening, the DCI confirmed that Nduta was arrested on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation into the suspicious disappearance of the lawmaker, who had earlier claimed he had been abducted.
Investigators now allege that contrary to Nduta’s earlier assertion that she was in Kangema attending church services and political meetings on the night of May 25, surveillance footage and other evidence place her at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South — in the company of the very man whose disappearance sparked a public outcry.
Authorities say the two spent the entire night at the establishment, casting serious doubt on MP Koimburi’s claims that he had been forcibly taken.
The investigation took a turn after Nduta’s driver, Joseph Kamau, recounted events leading to her alleged disappearance.
Kamau stated that he dropped Nduta near a restaurant in Kandara after she received a call from an unknown individual. Moments later, he noticed a suspicious vehicle nearby with its windows lowered and occupants staring intently at him. Concerned, he attempted to reach Nduta, but her phone was unreachable.
“I turned back and drove to the restaurant, but she was already gone. The hotel staff told me she had been taken by three men who seemed to have been waiting for her,” Kamau said.
According to him, the meeting at the restaurant had been arranged through a phone call from a man whose identity remains unclear. He suspects that the same individual may have orchestrated the entire event.
With Nduta’s arrest, the number of suspects in custody over the alleged hoax has risen to four. Police are now seeking to detain the group for an additional 15 days to allow for completion of investigations.
The incident has sparked debate on the use of public office for personal schemes and the growing trend of manufactured abductions meant to elicit sympathy or distract from political scrutiny.
Investigators continue to gather evidence as they try to unravel the motive behind what they suspect was a carefully planned deception.
