Allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are demanding the immediate publication of all agreements signed using Kenya’s public seal. They argue that the use of the seal must be transparent and accountable to the public.

The lawmakers insist that any deal authenticated with the public seal must be disclosed to Parliament and Kenyans. They say secrecy around such agreements raises questions about legality and national interest.

According to the MPs, the public seal should only be domiciled at the Attorney General’s office, as stipulated by law. They believe any deviation from this amounts to a constitutional breach.

“There must be clarity on who holds the public seal and under what authority it is being used,” one MP said. “We cannot allow such a powerful symbol to be misused behind closed doors.”

Their concerns come amid speculation that the seal has been used to finalize undisclosed international agreements. They fear these deals may have significant financial and political implications for Kenya.

The MPs have warned against executive overreach and bypassing parliamentary scrutiny. They say the public must be protected from secretive commitments that bind the country without consent.

Legal analysts have backed the call for transparency, citing the constitutional requirement for public participation and legislative oversight. They argue that the public seal is not just symbolic, but a legal endorsement of national decisions.

The demand is seen as part of a growing political rift within the ruling coalition. Gachagua’s allies have become increasingly vocal about being sidelined and ignored in critical government processes.

Some have hinted that powerful figures within the executive are using the seal to push through questionable agreements. They are now calling for a full audit of all documents executed with the seal since 2022.

The MPs want the Attorney General summoned to clarify who controls the seal and under what circumstances it has been used. They also demand that all agreements sealed in the recent past be made public immediately.
