Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has condemned the government following the hospitalisation of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza. Governor Mwangaza was reportedly attacked by a group of unidentified goons, leaving her injured and in need of medical attention.

The violent incident, described by witnesses as a “mburukenge beating” – a slang term for a brutal and merciless assault – has sparked outrage across the country.

Taking to social media, Passaris expressed deep concern over the attack, accusing the government of failing to protect elected leaders and allowing lawlessness to thrive. She demanded swift investigations and immediate action against those responsible.

“No leader deserves to be treated this way. The attack on Governor Kawira is not just an assault on her as a person, but on the dignity of elected office,” Passaris stated. “We must stop this culture of violence and impunity.”

Governor Mwangaza, who has faced political opposition and controversy during her tenure, was reportedly attending a public event when chaos broke out. Details about what triggered the attack remain unclear, but her team believes the incident was planned and politically motivated.

She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Meru County, where doctors say she is in stable condition.

Leaders from various parts of the country have called for calm and urged the police to arrest the culprits. The government is yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, tension remains high in Meru as investigations continue.
