The government has announced that big changes are coming for Kenyan employees. These changes are expected to affect both public and private sector workers across the country.

Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) said the changes are meant to improve working conditions,

increase productivity, and protect workers’ rights. He noted that the new rules will cover issues such as salaries, job security, and employee benefits.

“We want to make sure that Kenyan workers are treated fairly and given the respect they deserve,” the CS said. “At the same time, we also want to help employers build stronger workplaces.”

The government has not yet released full details of the changes, but officials say they will include updates to the Employment Act and new policies on working hours, minimum wage, and contract terms.

The changes are expected to be shared with the public in the coming weeks.

The announcement has received mixed reactions. Some workers welcomed the news, hoping for better pay and job safety.

“It’s good that the government is thinking about us,” said Jane Mwikali, an office assistant in Nairobi. “We face many challenges at work, and we need support.”

However, some business owners expressed concern, saying new rules could increase costs and make it harder to run their businesses.

“We support fair treatment of workers,” said a Nairobi shop owner, “but we also need to stay open and keep jobs.”

The government says it will hold meetings with workers, unions, and employers before making any final decisions. All sides will be allowed to give their views.

The Ministry of Labour promises to share full details soon and is asking the public to remain patient as the process continues.
