Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has firmly stated that she will not be swayed by online pressure to criticize the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, despite growing condemnation on social media regarding his political legacy.

Speaking candidly during the funeral service held at Karabok Primary School, Odhiambo defended her decision to honour the late MP in her own terms, dismissing attempts by critics to shape her tribute.

“I’ve been fighting with my friends on Facebook who want me to paint a picture of Ong’ondo Were that suits their narrative,” she said.

“You all know I am firm. Whether you like me or not, I don’t care. If you want to leave my Facebook, walk away. I will speak the truth as I know it.”She noted.

Odhiambo recalled Were’s loyalty during the last general election, commending him for standing publicly with Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, a stance few leaders were bold enough to take.

She also revealed that Were had promised never to engage in political rivalry with her and instead chose to support her development initiatives in Suba North.

The vocal MP described Were as a loyal ODM Party member and a dependable ally, both politically and personally.

Despite past reports of violence associated with Were’s political gatherings, particularly funerals, Odhiambo chose to highlight his humane side.

“He would sometimes share government information with me that helped my constituency secure vital infrastructure like roads. That’s why I cannot fight him.”
