Sonko Rescue

There was a sad mood at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as the bodies of three young Kenyan men who died in a fire in Sharjah, UAE, finally arrived home.

The victims, Kennedy Kamau (DJ Kaama), Benjamin Kioko, and Ian Ndung’u, were among five people who died on April 13 after a deadly fire broke out on the upper floors of a 52-storey building.

Family members, friends, and well-wishers gathered at the airport to receive the bodies, some in tears and deep pain.

The Kenyan community in the UAE helped bring the bodies back to Kenya, working closely with the families and local authorities.

The news of their deaths shocked many, both in Kenya and among Kenyans living abroad. DJ Kaama was especially known and loved by many in the entertainment world.

A memorial was held in Sharjah on April 18, where Kenyans gathered to pray and show support. Back home, the families of the three young men are asking for a proper investigation and help from the Kenyan and UAE governments.

They want justice and better protection for Kenyans working in other countries.
