Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni told Taifa Leo that there should be no doubt that former president Uhuru Kenyatta is standing firmly with the people and is publicly and privately committed to justice for all.
Mr. Kioni stated that It doesn’t matter who gets upset by Mr. Kenyatta’s wise words. Adding that Mr Kenyatta is not the kind of person who speak just to please the wrong people, despite working with him for over 30 years.
“It doesn’t matter who gets upset by Mr. Kenyatta’s wise words. He’s not the kind of person to speak just to please the wrong people, and they know that they worked with him for over 30 years.” he stated
Political analyst John Okumu called the meeting “the very first step in forming a coalition to oppose Ruto, a unification of Mt. Kenya heavyweights who command the region’s vote. It’s a warning that 2027 won’t be easy for the incumbent.”
Meanwhile, political analyst Charles Mwangi said the meeting aimed to “announce that Dr. Matiang’i is now an ally, and show that Mr. Kenyatta is finally aligning with Mt. Kenya voters heading into 2027.”
Mr. Mwangi added that Matiang’i’s presence at Gachagua’s meeting was a clear sign that Kenyatta has decided to actively participate in efforts to prevent Ruto’s re-election, bad news for the sitting president.
After nearly eight years of political rivalry between these Mt. Kenya political giants, it now appears that Kenyatta and Gachagua are uniting to unseat Ruto.
Gachagua served as Deputy President, but after two years, was sidelined by President Ruto, who supported efforts to remove him from office in October 2024.
Rather than retreat, Gachagua re-emerged as a leading opposition voice against Ruto’s government and now appears to be forming a coalition to oppose him.
