Kenyan musician Bahati has opened up about a painful chapter in his life involving betrayal from within his own family. Speaking candidly, the artist revealed how his once-close relationship with a sibling took a dramatic turn following an incident in 2017.
According to Bahati, the rift began after he campaigned for then-President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during the 2017 general elections. For his efforts, Bahati was compensated—but claims that his sister took the money. “It wasn’t just about the cash,” he said. “It was the trust that was broken.”
However, the situation escalated even further. Bahati shared that after taking the money, his sister allegedly sent a so-called prophet with a chilling message: that the woman he was dating at the time was a thief. “She sent a fake prophet to tell me I was dating a thief,” Bahati revealed, clearly still affected by the incident. The prophetic warning caused Bahati to question his relationship and ultimately changed its course.
The emotional scars from the betrayal seem to linger. While Bahati didn’t name the sister or the ex-partner, he emphasized how the event deeply strained his family ties and influenced his views on trust and loyalty.
Today, Bahati continues to focus on his music and family with his wife Diana Marua, but the past remains a reminder of how even those closest can cause the deepest wounds.
Bahati’s story is a powerful testament to resilience—and the importance of surrounding oneself with people who uplift rather than deceive.
