Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made strong claims that the late General Francis Ogolla, former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), did not die from a helicopter crash but was actually assassinated.
Speaking in Mwingi Town, Kitui County, on Sunday, April 13, Kalonzo dismissed the official government report that blamed the accident on engine failure.
He said that General Ogolla was killed because of his role during the 2022 General Election, where he was sent to Bomas of Kenya by the National Security Council.
According to Kalonzo, some powerful people were not happy with Ogolla’s presence during the election tallying process.
He claimed that there had been threats made against the general, and he believed Ogolla was a marked man.
“There was no way General Ogolla was not going to be the next military boss. That is why he was taken out. No Kenyan believes the engine failure story. He was taken out!” Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader said the investigation report by the Ministry of Defence was not convincing.
He called for a fresh and independent probe, preferably done by Parliament, to uncover the truth behind Ogolla’s death.
He added that Kenya has experienced too many helicopter accidents involving top officials, and these need to be examined closely.
His remarks follow the official report released on Friday, April 12, which concluded that the helicopter crash happened due to engine problems.
The aircraft, a Bell Huey helicopter with registration KAF 1501, reportedly developed issues midair while on a mission in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Veteran lawyer Paul Muite also questioned the report. He said it was too general and did not go into enough detail to show what exactly caused the crash.
Muite believes the investigation team failed to identify whether the problem was accidental or intentional.
The death of General Ogolla shocked the nation. Many Kenyans have continued to ask questions, especially now that political and legal figures are expressing doubt about the official story.
Kalonzo insisted that unless a transparent and thorough investigation is done, the public will continue to believe that Ogolla was assassinated.
