Agnes Wambui

In a deeply emotional episode of the show “Why Are You Single” hosted by the renowned Monica Kagoni, a courageous Agnes Wambui laid her heart bare, recounting a painful chapter from her past that still lingers in her memory.

Agnes, with visible emotion and vulnerability, shared how she became pregnant shortly after completing her secondary education — a time when dreams were fresh, and naivety was at its peak. Her story took a raw and unexpected turn as she revealed that the pregnancy began during a secret rendezvous with her lover — deep in the forest.

“It just happened… we were young and I was naïve,” she said, her voice laced with both regret and reflection.

Shockingly, while her own mother remained unaware of her condition, it was her late grandfather — her confidant and best friend — who first noticed the changes in her.

“My grandpa knew before anyone else… he was my best friend. But my mother didn’t have a clue,” Agnes shared between 13:00 and 13:30 minutes of the video.

At seven months pregnant, feeling scared and uncertain, she made a secret visit to her lover, hoping to find refuge and support. But the response she received left her even more confused and heartbroken.

“I went to him quietly, asking if I could stay with him. But he told me to go back home and give him time to sort himself out,” Agnes recounted at the 14:00-minute mark.

Trusting his word, she returned home two days later — a decision that turned her world upside down. It was then that her mother discovered the pregnancy, and her reaction was devastating.

“My mom was furious. She slapped me several times. It was not easy,” she revealed, her voice cracking during the 15:15–15:20 segment of the interview.

Being the firstborn in a strict Christian household, Agnes said the shame weighed heavily on her. Her mother was a respected church elder known for upholding high moral standards — and her daughter’s unexpected pregnancy brought a storm of disappointment.

“I was the family’s pride, and I ended up being an embarrassment. My mother had always taught us values… and I broke her heart,” Agnes confessed.

A Tale of Pain, Regret, and Hope
Agnes’ story is not just about a teenage pregnancy. It’s about trust, betrayal, and the invisible scars that linger after being let down by those you love. It is also a mirror into the societal pressure many young women face, especially when they fall short of expectations placed upon them.
