Ruto Urged to Focus on Delivery, Not Just Politics

Former Cabinet Minister Samuel Poghisio has called on President William Ruto to shift his focus from constant public rallies to delivering on his promises to Kenyans.

Speaking on TV47’s Morning Café, Poghisio said that while Ruto may be banking on a second term to complete his development agenda, time may not allow him that luxury.

According to Poghisio, the president seems confident he will secure re-election and thus has adopted a long-term view of his projects. However, the former senator believes the current administration should prioritize results now, not later.

“President Ruto thinks he has time — maybe two terms — but the reality is that Kenyans want to see change today, not five years down the line,” Poghisio said. “Compare that with the late President Mwai Kibaki, who was known for his seriousness. He would question why people were loitering during work hours. He was strict and results-driven.”

Poghisio contrasted this with Ruto’s frequent rallies and public events, noting that the president seems to draw energy from addressing crowds instead of focusing on governance. He cautioned that constant politicking can distract from service delivery and erode public trust.

He also warned that public patience is running out. “People are struggling with the cost of living and unemployment. The government should spend more time creating solutions, not just talking about plans.”

Poghisio’s remarks reflect growing pressure on the Kenya Kwanza administration to prove itself as economic hardships continue to bite.

As citizens look for tangible results, observers like Poghisio are urging leaders to minimize talk and maximize action.
