Junet Mohamed, the Leader of Minority in the National Assembly, has stirred political waters with remarks that could spell trouble for former CS and ex-Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi.Speaking during the EID baraza in Mombasa on Saturday, April 5, Junet announced plans to table a motion in Parliament to summon Muturi over the ballooning cost of constructing Bunge Towers from an initial Ksh 6 billion to a staggering Ksh 27 billion.
Junet questioned how such a significant cost increase went unnoticed and unaddressed, stating it should have triggered investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) or the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“A man by the name of Justin Muturi spoke yesterday, and he had a lot to say. I have a lot to say about him, but he talked too much,” Junet said.
He further accused Muturi of hypocrisy, referencing a past political exchange.
“When I asked him to support Baba (Raila) before the 2022 elections, he told me Ruto was a better choice. Now he wants us to believe Ruto is the problem? We’re not fools,” Junet stated.
Junet insisted that during Muturi’s tenure as Speaker, the initial budget for Bunge Towers was Ksh 6 billion.
By the time he left office, that amount had soared to Ksh 27 billion an inflation Junet believes Muturi must explain. “I’ll be tabling a motion in Parliament. He said a lot, but conveniently left this out,” he added.
These remarks followed Muturi’s revelation that President Ruto had emphasized the power tied to high-value government contracts while trying to persuade him to accept Attorney General position.
