Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale made a bold statement urging President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga to engage Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in dialogue to prevent political divisions in Kenya. Khalwale’s remarks have sparked discussions about the role of Gachagua in Kenya’s political landscape and the potential impact of his recent statements.

In his statement, Khalwale emphasized that if Ruto and Raila are committed to national unity, they should take the initiative to sit down with Gachagua and address his concerns. He warned that ignoring the deputy president’s grievances could lead to further political rifts, which would be detrimental to the country’s stability.

Gachagua has been vocal about issues affecting his Mt. Kenya political base, often criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government for neglecting their interests. His remarks have fueled speculation of internal discord within Ruto’s administration, with some seeing him as positioning himself for future political ambitions. The deputy president’s recent outbursts have also drawn mixed reactions, with some leaders supporting his stance while others accuse him of fueling division.

Khalwale’s statement reflects a growing concern that Kenya’s leadership must work together to bridge existing political gaps. Raila Odinga, who has been working on a bipartisan approach with Ruto following the heated 2022 elections, could play a crucial role in ensuring national cohesion. However, Gachagua’s role in this unity remains uncertain, given his increasing dissent within government circles.
