Ruto in School1

President William Ruto has sacked the leader of Farmers Party Irungu Nyakera as the chairman of board of directors of Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

In a gazette notice dated April 1, 2025, Ruto revoked Nyakera’s appointment and replaced him with Samuel Waweru Mwangi.

Waweru’s appointment as the boss of the parastatal took effect on April 1 and will last for a period of 3 years.

Reacting to his dismissal, the politician said: “I feel SPECIAL to be fired through a SPECIAL ISSUE. They could not wait for Friday!”

Nyakera was appointed as the KICC board chair on August 2024 having been transferred from the Kenya Medical and Supplies Authority (KEMSA) board where he served as the chairman.

The Farmers Party is among constituent parties forming Kenya Kwanza together with United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Ford-Kenya, PAA, and others.

Nyakera, a former Principal Secretary in former President Mwai Kibaki and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta regimes, vied for Murang’a governor but was defeated by Irungu Kang’ata of UDA.

Recently, Nyakera has turned out to be a critic of Ruto’s administration notably over his alleged sidelining of the Mt Kenya region.

Last week, he claimed that the arrest and imprisonment of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu were not about justice but rather politics, asserting that there is fear of his comeback.

“More than six Land Cruisers picked up Waititu from Industrial Area Prison on March 24 and took him to Kamiti Maximum. What he is going through is not justice; it is politics disguised as law. This is fear. Fear of his comeback,” Nyakera said.

The FA boss is not accompanying Ruto in his ongoing tour of Mt Kenya since he is in school at Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

In a message to Mt Kenya residents, Nyakera warned them against being hostile to Ruto and urged them to focus on development and not politics during the Head of State’s tour.
