ndindi and ruto

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro broke up with President William Ruto in 2024, Gatanga MP Edward Muriu has claimed.

Muriu, who also serves as the Secretary of Legal Affairs for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), said the two fell out in October last year over former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment.

The MP alleged Ruto pushed Nyoro to back Gachagua’s impeachment which was sponsored by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse but the Kiharu legislator declined.

After he refused to support the DP’s ouster, Muriu said, the President went on to implore on Nyoro to marshal Murang’a MPs to vote for the motion, a request he again rejected.

“Nyoro is my confidant. He confided ed in me that he had severed ties with Ruto after he refused to support Cachagua’s ouster. When he refused, the President Instead asked him to mobilise Murang’a MPs to support the impeachment motion, but he also declined,” Muriu said.

The Gatanga MP made the remarks while disputing Ruto’s assertions that he is nurturing the Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and that Nyoro is his mentee.

During an interview with local media at the Sagana State Lodge on Monday night, the UDA boss said Nyoro was still his political mentee and described him as one of the most outstanding young leaders in Mt Kenya.

“Leave Ndindi Nyoro to me. He’s part of the young MPs I’m currently mentoring. There are things I do not want to disclose here, but leave him to me. Sometimes these young MPs I’m mentoring make mistakes here and there, but it is my duty to guide them through, and like I said leave them to me,” he said.

Ruto further said he played no role in removal of Nyoro as the chairman of committee on budget and appropriations in the National Assembly.

“As for his demotion from the Chair of Budget Committee, you all are aware Parliament had reached mid-season and as per the law the Committees were due for a rejig. The rule is that you have to offer yourself for election in order to stand a chance at re-election. I don’t know whether anyone of you would know whether Ndindi Nyoro offered himself for re-election as the Chair for the Budget Committee,” the President said.
